How to Make a CV for a Job in Pakistan: Format + Sample
September 7, 2026 · 10 min read
Your CV has very little time to make its case. Recruiters often spend as little as 30 seconds scanning each CV, and many organizations also use Applicant Tracking Systems to filter applications before a recruiter sees them, according to the LUMS Career Services Office. So your CV often has two readers: the software first, then a busy recruiter. This guide covers both.
Getting the CV format in Pakistan right is not about fancy design or big words. It is about making it easy for both readers to see, quickly, that you are worth a call. Here is exactly how to make a CV for a job in 2026, with a simple format you can copy at the end.

What is the best CV format in Pakistan in 2026?
For almost every private-sector job in Pakistan, the best choice is a reverse-chronological CV in a single column. That simply means your most recent job comes first, and the page reads straight down from top to bottom.
It wins for three reasons. Recruiters at banks, telecoms, schools, software houses and multinationals are used to it. Hiring software reads it without mixing up your details. And it puts your latest, most relevant experience where eyes land first.
A few format rules that keep it clean:
- Font: Calibri, Arial or Times New Roman, size 10.5 to 12 for text and a little bigger for headings.
- Layout: one column, normal margins, clear section headings, no tables or text boxes.
- Design: black text on white. A single accent colour for headings is fine. Skip icons, skill bars and graphics.
- Length: one page for fresh graduates, two pages for most experienced professionals.
Fancy two-column templates downloaded from Canva or Pinterest are popular, but they often confuse the software that reads your CV first. The plain version is the one that gets you shortlisted.
CV sections in order
Recruiters scan for the same blocks in the same order. Give them exactly that.
- Name and contact details. Full name, mobile number with +92, a professional email, your city, and your LinkedIn link. Put these as plain text at the top.
- Career objective or professional summary. Three or four lines about who you are and what you offer (examples below).
- Work experience. Newest first. Job title, company, city, month and year you started and finished, then three to six bullet points.
- Education. Degree, university or board, and passing year. Add CGPA or percentage if it is strong or the job asks for it.
- Skills. The real software, tools and abilities the job needs, written the way the job ad writes them.
- Certifications, projects and languages. Short courses, notable projects, and languages such as English, Urdu and any regional language.
- References. One line is enough: "Available on request."
Photo, CNIC, father's name and domicile: do you need them?
This is where Pakistani CVs differ from western ones, and where many people waste space.
- Photo: common and accepted for most local and Gulf jobs, but optional unless the job ad asks for it. If you add one, use a simple professional headshot. Leave it off for jobs in the US, UK, Canada or Australia.
- CNIC, father's name, domicile and date of birth: private companies rarely need these on a CV. Government recruitment bodies such as FPSC and PPSC usually collect CNIC and domicile through their own application forms, so add them to your CV only when the ad specifically asks.
- Religion, marital status and full home address: not needed. City and country are enough.
Career objective or professional summary? With examples
Both sit at the top of your CV. The difference is simple: a career objective says what you want to do next, which suits fresh graduates. A professional summary says what you have already done, which suits anyone with a few years of experience.
Keep it to three or four lines, and borrow two or three key words from the job ad. Here are examples you can adapt (they are templates, not real people):
Fresh graduate (BBA): "Business graduate from a Lahore university seeking an entry-level role in sales or marketing. Completed a six-week internship handling customer data and social media for a retail brand. Confident in MS Excel, Canva and client communication, and eager to learn fast in a target-driven team."
Experienced professional (accounts): "Accountant with five years of experience in month-end closing, bank reconciliations and tax filing for a manufacturing company in Karachi. Skilled in QuickBooks, advanced Excel and FBR compliance. Looking to bring accurate, on-time reporting to a growing finance team."
Notice what both do: a clear role, real skills named the way employers search for them, and a hint of results. Avoid empty lines like "seeking a challenging position in a reputed organization." Every recruiter has read that sentence a thousand times.
How to write experience points that get calls
This is the single biggest thing that separates a CV that gets calls from one that does not. Most CVs list responsibilities. Strong CVs show results.
Compare these two lines. "Responsible for branch sales" tells a reader nothing. "Raised monthly branch sales from Rs 1.2 million to Rs 1.8 million in eight months by reviving 60 inactive customer accounts" tells them everything. Same job. One gets skipped, one gets an interview.
A simple pattern for every bullet: action word + what you did + a number or result.
- Weak: "Handled customer complaints."
- Strong: "Resolved 40 to 50 customer complaints a week and cut repeat complaints by a quarter by fixing the two most common billing issues."
Go through every bullet and add a number wherever you honestly can: how many, how much, how fast, what changed. Never invent a figure. A true small number beats a fake big one, especially when the interviewer asks about it.
Use the keywords from the job ad
Hiring software and recruiters both look for the words in the job posting. If the ad asks for "inventory management" and your CV only says "looked after stock," you may lose the match even though you have the skill.
Before you apply, read the ad slowly and pick out the skills, tools and job titles it mentions more than once. Wherever they are true for you, use the same words in your summary, skills and bullets. Change a few lines for each job instead of sending one CV everywhere.
Not sure which keywords you are missing? Paste the job into Cvalto and it compares your CV with that exact role, then gives you the list of keywords to add before you apply.

PDF or Word, and making your CV on your phone
Send a PDF unless the employer asks for Word. A PDF keeps your layout exactly as you designed it on every screen. Some job portals and HR teams ask for a Word file, and when they do, send Word. Name the file properly, for example "Ayesha-Khan-CV.pdf", not "CV final new 2.pdf".
Make sure the PDF is real text, not a picture. If you scanned a printed CV or took a photo of it, software cannot read a single word. Export it from Word or Google Docs instead.
No laptop? You can still make a proper CV on your phone. The free Google Docs or Microsoft Word apps let you type your CV using the format above and then download it as a PDF. Cvalto also works in your phone's browser, so you can score your CV and make a new one without a computer.
Frequently asked questions
Which CV format is best in Pakistan?
A reverse-chronological CV in a single column, one to two pages long, with clear headings and your latest job first. It is what most Pakistani recruiters expect and what hiring software reads most reliably.
How should a CV look in 2026?
Clean and simple: one column, a standard font, plain-text contact details, a short summary, result-focused bullet points and a skills section that matches the job ad. Heavy design, skill bars and photos of the whole page are out.
Can ChatGPT create a CV for me?
AI tools can help you draft wording, but they write generic text and sometimes add skills or results you never had. Always check every line is true, and match it to the job you are applying for. Cvalto is built for this: it scores your CV against a real job and rewrites your own experience without inventing anything.
Should I put my CNIC on my CV in Pakistan?
Usually no. Private employers do not need it on a CV, and it is sensitive personal data. Government jobs usually collect CNIC and domicile through their own application form, so add it only if the ad asks.
How many pages should a CV be in Pakistan?
One page if you are a fresh graduate or have under two years of experience, and two pages for most experienced professionals. Go longer only for senior or academic roles where the extra detail is truly relevant.
Your CV is a door, not a decoration
A good CV is not the one that looks the fanciest. It is the one that gets read, by the software and by the person behind it, and makes them want to meet you. Keep the format clean, write results instead of duties, use the job's own words, and adjust it for every application. Do that, and the silence starts turning into calls.
