ATS Friendly CV for Pakistan (2026): Free Template + Check
November 2, 2026 · 9 min read
You can be the right person for a job and still never reach a recruiter, simply because the software that opens your CV first could not read it.
That software is an applicant tracking system (ATS). An ATS friendly CV is one it can read from top to bottom without losing your name, your experience or your skills. This guide shows the ATS friendly CV format that works for jobs in Pakistan, gives you a free ATS friendly CV template in Word, and shows you how to check your own CV before you apply.
Check your CV first: upload it to Cvalto and get your free ATS score out of 100, the keywords you are missing and the formatting problems that stop software from reading it.
What is an ATS friendly CV (or resume)?
In Pakistan, "CV" and "resume" usually mean the same document, so an ATS friendly CV and an ATS friendly resume are the same thing.
An applicant tracking system reads your file, pulls out your details and stores them as plain text. Recruiters then search and sort candidates using that text. If the software cannot read part of your CV, that part may never show up in a search, even when you have the exact experience the job needs.
So "ATS friendly" does not mean plain or boring. It means every important word on your CV is real, readable text in a simple order. Many job portals and larger employers sort applications this way. We explain how this works on Rozee.pk in our Rozee.pk CV guide.
ATS friendly CV format: 7 rules that work
These rules come from university career services such as the University of Georgia Career Center and James Cook University Careers, and from the formatting checks Cvalto runs on every CV.
- Use one column, top to bottom. ATS software reads across the page, so a two-column layout can mix your details together. A single column is the safest choice for online applications.
- Do not put content in tables or text boxes. Many systems cannot extract text from tables, and text boxes are often skipped or read in the wrong order.
- Keep your name, phone and email in the main page, not in the header or footer. Many systems do not read headers and footers at all, so your contact details can disappear.
- Make every word typed text. Words inside an image, a scanned page or a photo of a printed CV cannot be read by the software.
- Use standard section headings. Write "Work Experience", "Education", "Skills" and "Certifications". Creative headings can make a system skip the section.
- Choose a simple font. Arial or Calibri are safe. Unusual fonts in a Word file can also shift your layout on a recruiter's computer.
- Use the exact words from the job ad. If the ad says "Microsoft Excel", write "Microsoft Excel", not only "computer skills". Write a term in full once, with the short form after it, such as "Search Engine Optimization (SEO)".
PDF or Word? Both are fine for most systems. James Cook University recommends PDF but notes that a PDF does not guarantee ATS compatibility, so always follow the employer's instructions if the job ad asks for a format.
Why Pakistani CVs fail ATS checks
Often the problem is not your experience but the design your CV was built in. These are common problems, with the fix for each:
- Two-column Canva or online designs: move everything into one column, in this order: name and contact line, profile, work experience, education, skills.
- Contact details in the page header: type your phone number, email, city and LinkedIn link as a normal line under your name.
- Photo, CNIC and personal details squeezed into a table: take the table out. The photo itself is not the problem; ATS software ignores photos and still reads your text. Keep a photo only where the job or country expects one, and see our UAE CV format guide and Saudi CV format guide for Gulf norms.
- Skills shown as stars, bars or circles: a system cannot read "4 out of 5" from a graphic. List the skill as text, with the tools you actually use.
- Icons instead of words: a phone icon with no number next to it tells the software nothing. Write the details next to each icon.
- A scanned or photographed CV: retype it in Word or build a new one. A scanned PDF has no readable text at all.
Is a Canva CV ATS friendly?
It depends on the template. Many Canva CV designs use columns, graphics and text boxes, which is exactly what applicant tracking systems struggle with. Canva also offers templates labelled ATS friendly, and those are usually simpler.
A quick test you can do in two minutes: open your PDF, select all the text and paste it into Notepad. If the order is mixed up or parts are missing, an ATS may have the same trouble. For a proper answer, upload the file to Cvalto: the formatting check flags tables, text boxes, columns, content in the header or footer, images and, in Word files, unusual fonts, and tells you how to fix each one.

What is a good ATS score?
There is no single number every company uses, because each system and each job is different. On Cvalto, a score of 80 or above is labelled an Excellent Match, 65 to 79 a Good Match, 50 to 64 an Average Match and below 50 a Poor Match. If you are below 65, start with the formatting issues and the missing keywords, because the report lists both for you.
Match your CV to the job description
A CV can be ATS friendly and still score low for a job, because the words do not match. That is why the same CV gets different results for different jobs.
With a job match, you paste the job ad and Cvalto shows the keywords you already match, the ones you are missing, and a score for that exact posting. For example, if an accounts job asks for "accounts payable", "bank reconciliation" and "QuickBooks", and your CV only says "handled company accounts", you are likely to rank lower than someone who used the same words as the ad, because these systems rank candidates by how closely they match the job. Add the terms that are true for your work, in your own experience lines.
Before and after: making one CV ATS friendly
Here is an illustrative example of the same details, before and after.
Contact details
- Before: name, phone and email inside the page header, next to a photo in a table.
- After: name at the top of the page, then one typed line: "Lahore, Pakistan | 0300 1234567 | name@email.com | linkedin.com/in/yourname".
Skills
- Before: "MS Excel" with four filled stars out of five, in a side column.
- After: "Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP, data cleaning)" as normal text under the Skills heading.
Experience
- Before: "Responsible for accounts work" under a heading called "My Journey".
- After: under "Work Experience": "Prepared monthly bank reconciliations for 3 company accounts and cleared payment backlogs before month end." Use your own real numbers, never invented ones.
ATS friendly CV for Gulf jobs
The same seven rules apply to jobs in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar. Gulf CVs usually add a few details at the top, such as nationality and visa status. Our ATS friendly CV guide for Gulf jobs covers those in detail, and the CV maker has ready formats for the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Qatar.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know my resume is ATS friendly?
Check four things: one column, no tables or text boxes, contact details in the main page and every word typed as text. Then upload it to an ATS checker. Cvalto's free check gives you an ATS score out of 100 and lists the exact formatting problems in your file.
How do I convert my CV into an ATS friendly CV?
Copy your text into a simple single-column template, such as our free Word templates. Remove tables, text boxes and skill graphics, use standard headings, and add the keywords from the job ad that are true for you. Or let the Cvalto CV maker rebuild it from your existing CV.
Can ChatGPT make an ATS friendly resume?
ChatGPT can help you phrase your experience. It does not see how your file is laid out, so it cannot tell you whether tables, columns or headers will break the parsing. It can also add details that are not true, so check every line yourself.
Is Cvalto's ATS checker free?
Yes, your first CV analysis is free and shows your ATS score, Structure and Writing scores, keywords and the formatting review. Full bullet rewrites, cover letters and PDF downloads come with one-time packs from Rs 500.
Is an ATS friendly CV different from a normal CV?
The content is the same: your profile, experience, education and skills. The difference is the layout. An ATS friendly CV keeps everything in simple, readable text so both the software and the recruiter can read it.
